2020-02-09 Weekly Happenings
Hi Everyone!
We will be down at the range on Monday this week starting at 6pm. Due to scheduling conflicts with our RSOs, we will *NOT* be at the range on Tuesday.
Items this week:
- We will only be at the range on Monday.
- As a umm... bribe... to get people who normally show up on Tuesdays to show up this Monday instead, I've made cookies for any team members that show up this Monday to take home after practice.
- This week we will be:
- Revisiting AirRifle: working on butplate positioning and just general practice.
- Shooting MSRL Targets 3&4 for anyone that wants to.
- Due to issues last week getting the SCATT system working, we will not be wasting any more range time trying to use the SCATT system this season.
- As everyone at the range last week can attest; there were quite a few issues with getting the SCATT system working.
- Sadly, since the range management prohibits* me from dry firing any of the team's rifles at the range I'm unable to troubleshoot the SCATT System.
- * Prohibited unless during the 1800-1930 "public hours" block and the daily range fee is paid
- What I have been able to figure out is that the issue might be with the LED lighting at the range, the "black" on the target holder, a misalignment or loose cable on the sensors, or some other issue with just the general setup or initial calibration issue on the rifle being used.
- Non-Students: I wouldn't plan on shooting MSRL this month.
- We can't have non-student team members shooting after 1930 without an SDC Issued RSO there to collect the day pass tickets for whatever reason.
- They are working on hiring someone to sit in the range office and collect the day passes after 1930 hours, but that probably won't be in place until after targets 5&6 are due.
- If you are interested in joining and are unsure, come down to the range and try us out! It's never too late to start!
Upcoming Items:
- Midstate targets 3 & 4 are due on February 21st. You're more than welcome to start shooting them at any point. Just let me know and I'll get your targets ready for you.
- The trip for the WIRC finals will be on February 22nd - 24th in Jackson, MI
- Thanks to our grant from the MidwayUSA Foundation this will be an all expenses paid trip.
- Midstate targets 5&6 are due on March 13th
- This is the week of Spring Break, so I will need your targets shot before then
- We have the opportunity to compete in Open Sectionals the weekend that starts or ends Spring Break.
- This is a smallbore 3P & 4P event
- We will most likely traveling to UW-Oshkosh or Jackson, MI
- Look for more detail in an email later today.
- We will probably be having a postseason competition against GVSU sometime in late March / early April.
- Several other schools might show up as well.
- We are still figuring out a date and location so look for details later this month.
- Due to issues hosting competitions at the SDC with the existing range rules and the "Public Hours" policy, we will most likely be traveling to the GVSU or UofM range.
- We will be having a membership meeting in February.
- Date is still TBA. Look for an announcement about it once we get a date.
- This is the meeting where we will be electing next year's organizational officers (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, Etc.)
- If you have any desire to be an organizational officer and have questions about what it entails, feel free to ask me or one of this year's officers
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the content of this message please let me know. Thank you for your attention, and have a great week!
GO HUSKIES!
