Rifle Team Weekly Happenings 2021-02-21

Hi Everyone!

• We will be in the SDC rifle range on Tuesday from 6-10pm.
  
  
  
• Good news (If good news can come out of this situation).  It turns out that due to campus completely shutting down last March, we never returned our air tanks to the scuba club.  A few weeks before the shutdown we received two full air tanks to take to the WIRC championships last year.... so we should have enough air for a few weeks.
  
  
• We will begin shooting Air Rifle this week.
  • Anyone returning - This is a good starting point for getting in the groove of things again.  Be sure to read back in your shooter's journal to help you figure out where you left off.  Where your positioning goes, how your equipment is set up, etc.....   You might find that after a break, you like things setup in a different way, you might also find that what you had works great and it feels like you never had a break.   Both feelings are perfectly normal to have.
  • Anyone new joining:
    • First we'll need you to fill out some paperwork and go through a bit of safety items.
    • Next we'll go over some housekeeping items like where things are stored and equipment checkout & cleanup procedures.
    • After that we can move into actual shooting.  Just so you get a feel for the rifle, you'll be shooting off of a support of some type.  Once you're comfortable with the rifle we'll start working on the standing position.

Upcoming Items:

• Next week we will be shooting something....   Most likely Air Rifle (depending on our air situation)
  • If we run out of air we will jump straight to Smallbore Rifle - Prone.
  • If we have air, we will continue introducing more technical aspects of the position and begin tweeking and fine tuning the basic skills.
  • I can't stress enough the importance of Air Rifle.   In the typical NCAA / NRA Collegiate competition, AirRifle is 50% of the total score; And overall the Standing Position is 2/3rds of the total score.
• We will be having a membership meeting in March.
  • Date , Time, & Location are all still TBA.   Look for an announcement once we get that figured out.
  • This is the meeting where we will be electing next year's organizational officers (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, Etc.)
  • If you have any desire to be an organizational officer and have questions about what it entails, feel free to ask me or one of this year's officers
