Rifle Team Weekly Happenings 2021-10-24

Hi Everyone!

I hope that you're all doing well.  We will be at the range on Tuesday from 6-10pm.  Important:  If possible, please try to show up to the range earlier in the evening (See more below)

Items this week:

  • This week we will be shooting our Smallbore Rifle postal targets. (And Air Rifle for anyone that hasn't completed theirs yet)
    • Just try your best.  That's all you can ask from yourself.  You'll get better as the season progresses!

  • If you finish your match targets and there's time left you're more than welcome to continue shooting.  If you can, please let me know what time you plan to show up to the range to shoot your WIRC targets.  This allows me to plan and coordinate better.  (Assign firing points, get targets ready, match start timing etc.)
    • I anticipate that groups of people will start competitions at approximately 6:15, 6:45, 7:15, 7:45, 8:15.  (Starting after 7:45 will not have the full competition time.  We need to start packing around 9:45 and be out of the range by 10pm-ish)
    • Please show up about 10-15 minutes before the start times to get your equipment setup.
      • This way we don't interrupt anyone who's actively shooting the competition.

  • Normally this wouldn't be an issue but Tuesday is kinda a "perfect storm" situation.  So if possible, please try to show up to the range no later than the 7:15 start time.  It would be great if all targets were shot and scored by 9:00.  The competition will take about a little over 2 hours from start to finish,
    • It's the last day we have in the range before I need to submit our match targets.  I don't have the expensive license to run the scoring part of the match software on my home PC (Mark crossfires, rescore, etc.) ....   all I can do is setup matches and view/export scores.
    • I just found out this morning that I have a thing scheduled on Tuesday Night.  I'll need to leave the range around 9:10-9:15ish.
    • If it's not possible to get targets shot and scored by 9:00 it's not an issue.  I'm just trying to avoid needing to take the scoring equipment home.

  • The WIRC targets are shot under NRA rules.  Unfortunately, the NRA doesn't believe in "Block Time", so I can't give you a chunk of time and say "go".  So below is what will happen for Smallbore Rifle:
    • Checkin and receive firing point assignment.
    • Gather All equipment to the line and get set up.
    • Shooters to the line called at listed starting time
      • 3 Minutes - Preparation Period
      • 20 Minutes - 20 record shots Prone
    • Target & Equipment Change
      • 10-ish Minutes
    • Shooters to the line called
      • 3 Minutes - Preparation Period
      • 40 Minutes - 20 record shots Standing
    • Target & Equipment Change
      • 10-ish Minutes
    • Shooters to the line called
      • 3 Minutes - Preparation Period
      • 30 Minutes - 20 record shots Kneeling

  • Since most of you haven't learned how to zero the rifle yet.  We'll do the same thing we did last week and just do the best we can.

  • We have our first General Membership Meeting. This Wednesday 7:30-8:30PM in Fisher 127.
    • It's not range time but it's equally important as practice.  This is where we do things like hear committee updates, vote on things and stuff.
    • We're required to do this twice a semester.  To make it count we must have a minimum body count, so please show up!
    • As a bribe to get you to show up we'll be having Cider and Donuts.
    • This is on-campus so whatever COVID mask policy exists for campus at the time must be followed.

  • If you are interested in joining and are unsure, come down to the range and try us out!  It's never too late to start!

  • Homework
    • Think of a calming, happy place or scene that you're able to visualize.
      • That's it.

Upcoming Items:

  • Next week we will start backfilling.   All of November we will just be working on Smallbore Prone & related skills (Positioning, "muscle memory", match commands, timing, zeroing, etc.).

  • We will have a few travel opportunities coming up in November & December.  More details will be released when I finalize some plans with the other coaches.

Thank you for your attention, and have a great week!

GO HUSKIES!
- Zach
