Rifle Team Weekly Happenings 2022-11-20

Hi Everyone!

I hope that everyone had a great week before break, and if you were traveling somewhere for the break, you arrived safely.  When you return from break, please travel safely.  I can tell you first hand that the stretch between Marquette and Baraga DOES have moose activity and if you hit one it really puts a dent in your car and a larger dent in your daily life .  If you want to know the story....   That's a great question / conversation to have on our trip to Jackson, MI on December 3rd.  (Please see the email sent out last week for further details on this trip).

Range Time This Week:

None - We will not be shooting due to Thanksgiving Break

Homework:

• During your break, find somewhere and some time to just practice your shooting positions.  Nothing too serious.  Just turn the TV on, and lay there watching it in Prone, Wad up a hoodie, or grab a couch pillow and sit there in Kneeling, just stand there in standing.  Just try it out, and try to remember all the key points about the positions.
• After Winter break we will start a new position - Sitting.
  • This position can be practiced at home as well.  Just sit on the ground "Criss-cross Applesauce".  That is place your left leg, over your right leg, and sit   (If shooting right handed).   If you're shooting left-handed place your right leg over your left and sit.
  • Just get used to this.  You'll be sitting in it for about 20 minutes at a time.

Upcoming Items:

• When we return from break we will be
  • Shooting November WIRC targets (If you haven't shot them all yet)
  • Shooting December WIRC Targets if you aren't traveling to Jackson on December 3rd.
  • Getting ready to Travel to Jackson, MI on December 3rd.
• On the weekend of December 3rd we will be traveling to Jackson, MI for a competition against the University of Michigan (These will also count as our December WIRC Targets).
  • Please see the message sent for additional details.
  • The plan is to pack on Thursday night or Friday morning.  We will be leaving Houghton late Friday morning.  We should be back in Houghton on Sunday night.
  • I need to know if you are going by November 25th so we can arrange hotel, University Excused Absence, Travel, Etc.
• I'm planning out another fun shoot that will hopefully be happening on December 5th or 6th.
  • The date will be determined based on if we can get access into the range during Finals Week to do cleaning, or if it needs to be done the week before finals week 
  • Important: This event is dependent on the SDC Range Management approving the targeting that will be used for this event.
    • If we can't get the approval request forms from the SDC Range management and the targeting approved we might need to cancel this event.  Per SDC Rifle Range Rules & the SOP all targeting used at the range must be approved.
• End of year rifle maintenance will either be happening on December 5th + 6th, or December 12th + 13th.
  • The date depends on approval by SDC range Management for range access during finals week for cleaning.
  • There is no prior knowledge required to clean a team rifle.  We will show you everything you'll need to know.
  • The more people we have helping with this, the faster this goes.  It must be done before we leave for break.
