2016-09-11 Weekly Happenings

Hi Everyone!

I hope that all of you had a great K-Day and a terrific weekend!!    The range will be open tonight during the normal 6pm-10pm hours.

For everyone new on the list, this is suppose to be is kinda a weekly newsletter listing what's going on with the team and at the range instead of a bunch of individual emails clogging up your inbox.  Competition notices will be sent separately from these.

  • This week we will be practicing Air Rifle, working through the technical aspects of the position and adding equipment later this week.   I can't stress enough the importance of air Rifle.   In the typical NCAA / NRA Collegiate competition, air rifle is 50% of the total score.
  • If you are interested in joining and are unsure, come down to the range and try us out!  It's never to late to start!

Upcoming Items:

  • We will be attending the Boilermaker Invitational on the weekend of October 8th.  More information will be sent out seperately.  This is a very laid back competition so it's really good for anyone that hasn't been to one before.
    • If you show up to the range at least once or twice per week, you will most likely be prepared for this trip!

  • Next week we will begin shooting Smallbore prone for any team have gotten to the point of shooting Air Rifle with a jacket a few times.     For Smallbore you can either bring your own .22LR ammunition, or you can purchase it from us.   We sell 50 rounds for $2.50, and 500 rounds for $22.
    • I know there will still be a few of you that haven't gotten to the point of Air Rifle with a jacket and that's perfectly fine.  Not everyone advances at the same pace and we can work on it until you get to that point.

    • A note on ammunition if you do choose to bring your own: Please make sure that what you are bringing is a plain lead bullet (It does not have any type of jacketing), and check with me or a range officer before using it in the club rifles.  Our rifles are manufactured for precision competition, and are designed quite differently from your standard plinking rifle.  The wrong ammunition through them can quickly strip out the rifling, resulting in a very expensive trip back to Germany for repair.

  • We will be starting our first postal competition at the end of October month.   Look for more details on that in a few weeks.

  • We will have a few more travel opportunites coming up sometime in late October / early November.  More details will be released when I finalize some plans with the other coaches.

Thanks for your time and have a great week!

- Zach
