Upcoming Competition: Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Postals

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to let all of you know about our upcoming competition.  The Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference (WIRC) Postals.

What the WIRC postals are is a 20 shot / 3 position Smallbore + 60 shot Air competition.  We shoot the targets at our range for October - January and mail them into the WIRC coordinator.  For February we be traveling to a hosting school for a shoulder to shoulder competition.  This year Purdue is the host.

I strongly urge everyone to participate regardless of your ability.  Not only are there awards for being the best shooter, there are awards for being the most improved.   BUT - you need to shoot all 5 matches to qualify for any awards.

The only cost to participate in the postal portion is your ammunition costs.  For the travel portion in February, there will be a cost.

I need everyone's targets shot by the last day of the month.  Please plan to spend about 2-3 hours/night at the range shooting the targets, and it will probably take two nights.  One for Smallbore, and one for Air Rifle.

Because all of the positions are timed differently, there's a certain order that must be followed, and these must be shot under match conditions, we will have a specific timeline to follow.  Because the conference moved from NCAA to NRA Collegiate rules, I still need to figure out that timeline that will work with most people's schedules.  Once I get it figured out, I'll send it out; but below is a rough outline of what will happen:

  1. Show up at a certain time.  (To be determined)
  2. Check in with me at the range.  Let me know if you will be shooting Air Rifle or Smallbore.  You must shoot your Smallbore targets before your Air Rifle targets, unless you are only shooting Air Rifle for the WIRC.
  3. You will be assigned a firing point.  I start filling out your targets.
  4. Get equipment from back rooms and get setup.
  5. At some point I will give you the targets.  You hang the targets
  6. At another point in time we will start firing.
  7. When time has expired, or all competitors have completed firing, we will change targets.
  8. You will receive a 3 minute preparation time after target change + 5 minute changeover period.
This is going to be new to almost everyone, and it's been about 8-ish months since we've done this so things will be a little bit rusty.  It does get easier, all it takes is figuring out a good "grove".

If you are interested in participating in the *POSTAL* portion, please let me know.

If you have any questions about the above, please let me know.

Thanks,
Zach
