Upcoming Competition: Intercollegiate Sectionals
Hi Everyone!
I hope that all of you are having a fantastic week! I wanted to let everyone know about another upcoming competition that we have the opportunity to compete in!
On the weekend of February 4th we have the opportunity to travel to Jackson, MI to compete in Intercollegiate Sectionals, hosted by the UofM Rifle Team. This competition is for Collegiate Club Rankings, and is required for an invite to the Collegiate Championships in March. This will most likely be a university excused absence. What that means is:
Student Organization members may request letters to verify their participation in co-curricular activities in the event that they need to miss class to do so. This letter is meant to confirm a student’s participation in an extracurricular activity, however it is not an excuse and it is the responsibility of the student to inform the instructor(s) and gain permission to make up any assignments, course work, and quizzes missed during this time.
The course of fire is 60 shots air rifle, and 60 shots 3-posiiton smallbore. The 3-position format will be the NRA style (Prone - Standing - kneeling).
Because this is a collegiate competition that follows NRA rules instead of the NCAA rulebook, there is a different criteria to meet, to go:
For purposes of NRA Intercollegiate Sectionals/Nationals ONLY: a collegian may compete for a maximum of four years during their undergraduate career. Collegians must be full-time during the semester in which they compete. If a collegian goes to graduate school directly after graduation from undergraduate school, and has one or more years of eligibility left, the graduate student may compete (and complete their four years of eligibility) in their first year of graduate school.
The cost to attend will be somewhere in the $50 range and will be all inclusive except for food, entertainment and ammunition. (Actual cost will depend on how many people we have going, and I will know that on Jan 16th) We have a subsidy and enough equipment for up to 10 competitors.
We are firing on the afternoon relay, so we have a lot of flexibility in our departure time. I won't be able to produce an itinerary until I know whose going; But if we leave before noon we will probably be driving all the way to Jackson, and if we leave after noon we will probably drive down and spend the night in Mackinaw or Gaylord, and then head to Jackson in the morning.
This competition is also being held on February 11/12th and we have the option to travel on that weekend - BUT you will miss the Friday-Sunday of Winter Carnival.
** IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY January 12th! **
Thanks,
Zach
