2017-09-25 Weekly Happenings
Hi Everyone!
I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend. The weather was amazing for this time of year!
For everyone new on the list, this is a weekly newsletter that usually gets sent out on Monday outlining what's going on with the team and at the range instead of a bunch of individual emails clogging up your inbox. Details about competitions will be sent separately from these.
- These first few weeks will kinda be a rush to get everyone up to speed on competition. We had a late start to the season and we need to cram about 2 months of practice into 6 practices before the competitive season starts, and I guarantee you that you won't be performing as you expect to be. But don't let this intimidate you and use it as an excuse not to compete. Everyone needs to start somewhere, and I promise that as long as you show up to practice, throughout the season you will get better. While you might not get an award for best overall score for the season our league also has many awards for most improved.
- This week we will be covering beginning Air Rifle and working through the basic, and maybe a few of the more technical aspects of the position. I'd also like to just get everyone in all the equipment so they can get a feel for it. I can't stress enough the importance of Air Rifle. In the typical NCAA / NRA Collegiate competition, Air Rifle is 50% of the total score.
- If you are interested in joining and are unsure, come down to the range and try us out! It's never too late to start!
Upcoming Items:
- We will be attending the Boilermaker Invitational on the weekend of October 14th. More information will be sent out on this later today. This is a very laid back competition so it's really good for anyone that hasn't been to one before.
- If you show up to the range at least once per week, you will have the minimum skills to shoot this competition.
- Next week we will begin practicing Smallbore prone for anyone that's tried out Air Rifle with all of the equipment.
- I know there will be a few of you that haven't gotten to the point of Air Rifle with all of the equipment, and that's perfectly fine. Not everyone advances at the same pace and we can work on it until you get to that point.
- We will be holding Team Picture day sometime in October or early November. We need find a date that will work for getting into the range that works for most and preferably doesn't interfere with practice.
- We will likely be traveling to UW-O or NDSU on the weekend of October 28th, so we can get our first set of WIRC targets shot. Look for more details on that in a few weeks
- We will have a few more travel opportunities coming up sometime in late Mid-November / Early December. More details will be released when I finalize some plans with the other coaches.
Thanks for your time and have a great week.
GO HUSKIES!
- Zach
