Upcoming Competition - WIRC October Targets

Hi Everyone!

I hope that everyone is still having a great week! I just wanted to pass along information about our first Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference match of the season! It will be the weekend of the 27th.

What the WIRC postals are is a 20 shot / 3 position Smallbore + 60 shot Air competition. We shoot the targets at (not) our range for October - January and mail them into the WIRC coordinator. For February we be travel to a hosting school for a shoulder to shoulder competition. This year Purdue (or Akron) is the host.

This trip is going to be a little bit tricky as we normally shoot the targets at our range and mail them in. Unfortunately we lack the ability to shoot targets in our range, so we need to go use someone else's range. I'm not sure whose range it will be at this moment. It could be a day trip range in Pelkie, Ontonagon, or Iron Mountain. or we might be making a trip to GVSU, Akron, Purdue or another school in our conference. I'm waiting to hear back from the other coaches and local ranges to see who can get us time on their range.

While the exact destination is going to be a surprise to all of use, it's important we have all of our paperwork filled out and ready. The goal is that this will be a university verified absence. What that means is:

Student Organization members may request letters to verify their participation in co-curricular activities in the event that they need to miss class to do so. This letter is meant to confirm a student’s participation in an extracurricular activity, however it is not an excuse and it is the responsibility of the student to inform the instructor(s) and gain permission to make up any assignments, course work, and quizzes missed during this time.

The cost to attend will be somewhere in the $40-60 range and will be all inclusive except for food, entertainment and ammunition. We have a subsidy and enough equipment for up to 10 competitors. We can take more than that, but the cost per person, might increase a bit.

The itinerary will probably be something like the below, but because we have a different number of smallbore and air rifles, the final itinerary ultimately depends on how many people will be going.I will have something more official on October 22nd once I have a final head count (And most importantly know where we will be shooting). Below is a generic schedule of what to expect on this trip.

Update 2017-10-19

Great news. I just got off the phone and we have a range and time to shoot at.

We will be shooting at the United Sportsmens Inc. indoor range down in Iron Mountain start at 1PM CDT on October 28th.

Their range is 8 firing points, so if we have more than 8 people we will need to have 2 relays and we'll figure out transportation when I have a final count.

The estimated cost to attend is $10, and covers travel expenses and range fees. It does not cover food, ammunition or any other expenses.
